Then use the classroom worksheets and discussion questions with your students to teach her books like Gaby, Lost and Found; Allie, First At Last and Me, Frida and the Secret of the Peacock Ring and her award-winning novel Lety Out Loud. I’m a daughter of a now-retired elementary school teacher. My mom taught in Kansas and Texas for about 20 years. Being a daughter of an educator has taught me a lot of things about the challenges and joys of being a teacher, but these are my top three lessons from being a teacher’s daughter:
1) Classroom pets will inevitably become our family pet (We had Oscar the salamander and Henrietta the rabbit for years!)
2) Teachers appreciate “free stuff”!
3) Teachers feel immense joy when she or he has connected a student to an amazing book.
I hope the classroom resources like the downloadable, printer-friendly worksheets, book discussion questions available for free on my website and author visit information are helpful in connecting your students to my books and turning your students into life-long readers!
