The amazing artist behind the book cover for Me, Frida and The Secret of the Peacock Ring is Rafael Lopez. Rafael is an award-winning illustrator who has worked with some of the top names in the children’s publishing industry.

I met Rafael once at an American Library Association Conference in Houston or Orlando- the details are sketchy, but I have proof that I met him (see photo below). Rafael is truly a kind-hearted human being and talented artist and illustrator. I’m eternally grateful for his beautiful work for my book cover.
I LOVE the cover of my upcoming Frida Kahlo-inspired mystery novel Me, Frida and the Secret of the Peacock Ring. The cover art designed by Rafael López is absolutely beautiful and perfectly captures the flavor of Mexico and mystery that permeates the story.
Face Time!
For me, the best part of Rafael’s stunning cover art, is that it shows the main character’s beautiful face. My last two book covers didn’t show any faces. Maybe that seems like a small thing, but it means so much to me when I’m writing about Latina characters. I want young Latinas to be seen! I want them to see themselves. Mirrors!
I’m grateful to Rafael López for his stunning work and the Scholastic design team for their support of my first mystery novel. Now, I’m praying all the young mystery lovers out there enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed writing it. 🙂
