Award-winning artist and Illustrator, Rafael Lopez, creates a masterful book cover for children’s novel!
I LOVE the cover of my upcoming Frida Kahlo inspired mystery novel Me, Frida and the Secret of the Peacock Ring. The cover art designed by award-winning illustrator, Rafael López, is absolutely beautiful and perfectly captures the flavor of Mexico and mystery that permeates the story. For me, the best part of Rafael’s stunning cover art, is that it shows the main character’s beautiful face.
My last two book covers didn’t show any faces. Maybe that seems like a small thing, but it means so much to me when I’m writing about Latina characters. I want young Latinas to be seen! I want them to see themselves. Mirrors!
I could go on and on about it. The big takeaway from this beautiful children’s book cover is this: I’m grateful to Rafael López for his stunning work and the Scholastic design team for their support. Learn more about Me, Frida and The Secret of the Peacock Ring.
